Incorporating 2018’s top design trends into your home

According to one survey, some 90% of respondents claimed that their homes featured some of the year’s biggest interior design trends so far.
Here, we look at some of those trends, and offer a few hints on how they could be incorporated into your home. Inject your dwelling with more than a dash of contemporary style this spring!

Wood

It seems that stylish, eco-friendly wood is definitely on-trend in 2018, topping one list of favourite national interior design fashions. You can follow it in a big way with flooring, as a way of tying rooms together in an open-plan space, or on a smaller scale, perhaps with some rustic-looking timber furniture. Or how about taking a closer look at some hardwood timber windows?

Wall art, plants and copper items…

Among the other trends for this year is statement wall art – perhaps incorporating vinyl album covers, framed typography or a retro music T-shirt to inject some personality into your living space. Meanwhile, copper was red-hot throughout last year, and it’s set to stay in 2018. Think accessories from toothbrush holders to lamps and cutlery in this must-have metal. Finally, plants can add depth and colour to your home, and bring a breath of fresh air to where you live. Succulent plants look amazing, and allow you to follow this trend without having to worry a great deal about pruning or watering.

Making an entrance with a vivid front door

Another highly favoured trend for this year is having a brightly-coloured front door. After all, what could be a better way to welcome guests to your property than an inviting entrance portal? Think yellow, bold blue and vivid red (to name but a few shades) to really catch the eye of visitors, and inject a little personality into your home’s exterior.

The Ideal Home interior design website lists mid-purple as Britain’s most-loved front door colour in 2018, while steel blue and violet are followed in second and third places respectively. The more traditional black and white shades are still in the top five, with bright yellow in sixth place. Cobalt and duck-egg blue and primrose yellow also make the top 10.
