Edwardian Conservatories

If you want to add a touch of sophistication to your Oxfordshire home along with some welcome additional living space, give the idea of a classic, understated Edwardian-style conservatory some serious consideration.

We’ve been installing Edwardian conservatories in Oxfordshire for over 20 years and know a thing or two about them.

Essentially, an Edwardian conservatory is T-shaped with clean lines, incorporating design features popular during the Edwardian era (typically meaning the first 10 years of the twentieth century.) It’s a style that’s bursting with character, and hugely popular with homeowners UK-wide.

Features

One of the main characteristics of this style of conservatory is the simple, uncomplicated nature of its design, which minimises ornate decoration. Its lines tend to be more subdued than those of its Victorian counterparts.

Think a bold rectangular (or sometimes square) shape, maximising space. This gives the Edwardian conservatory a clean symmetry in its design, making it ideal in particular if want to use your home improvement as a dining room, because of its proportions. (However, it’s great for other uses, too.)

An Edwardian conservatory can have dwarf walls or raised panels, while French and patio doors are also common features, and single-doors offer another choice.

Roofing options

Typically, there’s a high, four-sided glass sloping roof with sleek lines which create an airy, bright and informal living area and creating a great impression of space. That’s because the pitched roof creates a superb vaulted effect, enhancing natural light. (After all, the original design was intended to give plants maximum sunlight.)

The roof’s front part is traditionally also pitched with a ‘hipped front’ so that the ridge is an apex, making it look like a typical house roof.

We work with the Ultraframe system of roofing, a leading provider of solutions for more than a quarter of a century. This means your conservatory can fit your home, whatever your style of property and gives you access to the widest range of available styles. These solutions are also among the most highly thermally efficient to be found anywhere, and designed to handle the rigours of the British climate, so you stay warm and cosy all year round. (You’ll also benefit from a reduced carbon footprint and lower energy bills.)

What’s more, all Ultraframe roofs come with ventilation as standard, with patented solutions to minimise condensation in your conservatory. Equally, they all come with the Ultraframe Certificate of Authenticity, your guarantee of quality.

You could choose a solid roof, too, as an alternative to a glazed one, and add any number of finishing touches including various crestings and flourishing, or, for an extra elegant touch, coloured glass.
